Cant trust Anti Virus programs, because in my opinion they are the ones that created the viruses. So no such anti virus is actually working, as long we are aware of what we are browsing for and careful in downloading files, you should be saved from viruses.

In one of my courses we were assigned to do a simple task that in less than ten minutes. One person in the whole class was able to do the task in ten minutes, everyone else failed at it. The purpose of the task was to compare our skills to those in India. The students in India not only were able to accomplish such easy task but did it in less than five minutes.

Personally I am going into networking rather then database administration. But I do have lots of respect for database administrators as I know many of them and am aware of the complexity of their job sometimes. Many of the ideas are also network administrators have to be mindful of such as documentation. Effective tips, thanks for the post.

Although this particular article is only referring to the servers of banking systems, I am weary of so much digital conversion of financial services. There are more horror stories of the downfalls of these kinds of transitions then there are stories of unabridged success. Google Wallet is good example.

Seems like this is a much needed innovation. Data is too easily accessed and compromised that there needs to be bigger safeguards for such a situation. It is useful for database administrators.

I enjoy watching how companies can make their products available for multiple platforms or to be used in various systems, but still manage to find a way to make them the most efficient or complete by using all of said company's products together. Google, Microsoft, and Apple all do this quite well with their wide array of products.

I think the most worrisome hack I've seen lately is the one on Verisign, which provides security for almost all US domains, like.com and.net. It's a company that is paid for being secure... and it got hacked. Here's an article about it: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2399773,00.asp.

Great article, I was able to get get a lot of useful information from your blog. Regarding the idea to keep a log of what you do, great idea. It reminds me of the show "deadliest catch", captain Sig, always reviews his notes from previous years before deciding on where to fish. The job market is going to be pretty tough which is why we should be more diligent in preparing ourselves. Being a DBA will definitely be a high paying job.

This article is very informative and impressive in explaining the magnitude of services which can be delivered by this software. The feeling is mutual when referencing the scalability in which companies are using it. I'm actually pretty glad that we are able to learn something that is still current and hopefully it will still be current by the time we graduate.

This article is pretty informative. I think its the companies fault for not taking precautions since you stated that Microsoft has informed them on how to protect themselves from such attacks. Security is just as important as the software working properly, if not even more important. Very interesting article.

The worst thing about this automated hacking is that it is difficult for the government to be involved since they cannot trace where the attacks are coming from. There are few government regulations involved with electronic information, so it is easy for hackers to get away with stealing information. What's scary is that the information of people, businesses, banks, and even governments could be accessed by hackers and they could do whatever they want with it without getting in trouble if done properly.

The SQL server probably not only serves the customers well but the owners as well because it is so useful. It might be over whelming to use that type of technology. Using sophisticated software may be intimidating, but that is what some of us are getting into when we decided that we wanted to work in this industry. All we have to do is just get used to the software and live with it because it is not going anywhere until something better comes along, which may in fact may be more complicated than the previous one.
