@Mike, you probably won't hear much people talk about Visual Basic because usually people refer to ASP.NET or simply .NET these days. That means actually Visual Basic or C#. Java and .NET are equally strong in the market for enterprise systems/software.

As we discussed in class, actually ASP is not the same with ASP.NET. ASP is a server-side scripting language and is outdated. ASP.NET is a platform in which you can create web sites using other service side languages such as Visual Basic or C#. A platform comes with many pre-defined controls and pre-written functions so you don't have to write everything from scratch up, such as a calendar (an example of rich control).

Agree with Taylor's post, nice way to add salt to the wound. At least administrators will still be able to set caps on CPU usage. Nice post.

This is a really great article that talks about the new features in Visual Studio 11 with emphasis on the tools available for mobile developers in terms of UI. It seems there are still some features which are sought after by the author that are not included in VS11 yet. Thanks for sharing.

This would be an interesting thing to add to laptop security, considering that most come equipped with webcams built in already, but the facial recognition software would definitely have to be improved in order to make this applicable to the standard everyday computer.

Wow those are some pretty malicious crimes being committed. I didn't know it was that easy to access the hospitals' networks either, or how all their devices are connected to the network, making for an easy hacker target. I can see where you're coming from, security of the network that holds the lives of thousands of people in the balance needs some special treatment.

I agree with DavidLi. With only one music database, this company would have complete control over not only us as the consumer, but also the artists. They could control the prices we pay for music and the amount of money the artist gets paid for the music because we would have no other choices. This is the most ridiculous and unrealistic idea I have heard for a while. The music industry is already dominated by apple's iTunes. This as well as illegal downloads has reduced the music industry to its rock bottom. The music industry needs more separation of powers!!!!!

I liked this post because it is informative. I always like to read about different careers in our field because I don't know too much about many of the possibilities we have with our degrees. After finishing up this class I feel that we will have many of the fundamentals needed to do this job.

I cannot wait to learn more about the software so that I can have a better understanding of what the new features will have to offer.

Going along David Aslanyan's comment, don't you think that the provider for this single humungous database would be a monopoly? And to hackers, this single target would lead to such a massive reward if things went their way. From a security standpoint I wouldn't think a single database would be best, but I also see your standpoint of being more efficient and cost saving.

I found your article very interesting on the levels of security that this company puts on security for their consumers. At 12 grand, i can see higher profile sites and SaaS sites finding this a relatively cheap option for them. I wonder if SecurityChecker 1.1 or 2.0 etc is further enhance its scope and functionality to combat security threats.

Great article and kudos to Micro$oft for patching the exploit early to prevent things from getting out of hands. I think that it would be better if a lot of websites migrate their services to the cloud. There has been a lot of services that will monitor your applications productivity and scale them to meet the traffic demands. It will be much more easier to know if the site is being exploited because the monitoring service would automatically let us know.

Seeing as how ASP.NET is the current base platform for Web development, it is essential to keep it up to date and secure for users. Based on what you mentioned in your summary of the article, it looks like ASP.NET is on its way to becoming even more powerful than before with new features and capabilities that will allow users to thrive. I am rather interested to see where ASP.NET will grow within the next coming years.

I too feel that software, along with their features, should be kept up to date in order to keep up with users. Once a software plateaus, the user will become restricted to whatever capabilities are attainable through that software.

This articles provides some frightful insight on the vulnerability found in ASP.net, A server-side exploit can be disastrous on the scope of how many users can be infected with any form of Malware or spyware not recognized by antiviral software. ASP.net is an enticing tool for those willing to spread havoc.

I thought this article was very informative. I was not aware that you can download from a website straight to the cloud. It is also good to know that there is a way to encrypt the data through the listed app called Spideroak. Although companies will find many benefits in using the cloud for their computing needs, I would not start using this professionally just yet. Risks are too high.

This reminds me of using online search engines. Having to wade through results that lead to nonexistent pages or irrelevant websites is quite tedious. There should certainly be a way to reduce inaccuracy and improve processing speed. Imagine those problems with databases that store objects such as video or audio clips, instead of just text information. Yikes!

Making it open source is a great idea because there have already been threats about the releasing of the open source of an ASP.NET hack that can use up a lot of CPU usage for a web server. They are finally giving the fight to the people so that they have a better chance of how people understand this program. They can gauge the flaws that this platform has. It's smart.
