The article that I read about was about the fact that Oracle announced the launch of their new IaaS cloud computing service. The company’s CEO Larry Ellison affirmed that the company will have a new cloud infrastructure service during the company’s earnings call. This new service is said that will allow the customers the access to a secure virtualized computer power hosted in an Oracle data center. This new service will also bring other business to Oracle since this new product will also allow them to sell customers software to build “identical services” in their own data centers. All these new products are mainly created to allow them, the customers, to move workloads back and forth between their private clouds and them.
The CEO emphasized the fact that all these services make Oracle able to provide all three ties of cloud computing in which we have the spanning applications, a platform as a service, and database. This puts the company in a total new level where it can compete with big cloud companies like Amazon Web Services, IBM, and HP between others.
I picked this article because now that we have been talking about cloud computing and the whole database environment. I thought that it would be good to see how companies like Oracle are also incorporating this idea of cloud computing not only as a way to improve technology services but also as a way to make business. Just how Oracle is improving their services, many other companies are in the same boat trying to make more business out of the new technology improvements. All these new technology advances are helping company’s growth but it is important to remark that business acquiring all these technology to enhance their own need to evaluate their true necessities and how they could totally benefit from this technology. Many companies are now getting into cloud computing business, but I think that at the end out of all the companies that are being created only a few 3 will continue in business and will have the rest merging into them.
