This article shows an example of an application of Database Technology based on XML used for nuclear fuel calculation. Originally the nuclear fuel calculation software was based on the “ancient” FORTRAN language. It compares the old file system with the database system which gives it a few advantages. Such as Data sharing and low redundancy. Then introduces XML’s Characteristics and the Document’s applications. The article talks about the technique used to implement such a program. And the Authors conclude that XML databases based on can make full use of existing relational database resources and has the upper-hand of free exchange of data.
I thought that it would be wise to read up about XML and how we might learn about it in class to understand about it more.
I thought that the article was interesting enough. The only problem I had with it was that though it brought up many good points about itself. It did not mention why it was better than other alternative methods other than the old method.
