Earthquake Disaster Drill Test{0}

The article that I chose is ” Fake earthquake disaster drill tests facebook, twitter”.  This article was about a drill test set up by San Diego State University to see how social media could be used in case of a disaster.  What they did was they sent out messages of a tsunami and an oil spill reaching the coast of California due to an earthquake off the coast of Huntington Beach.  This Exercise was called X24 or exercise 24 which involved 15 different countries , the United Nations, the Red Cross, businesses, and the public.    The social media sites were used to share information and to respond more quickly to the needs of the public.

This exercise also encouraged the public to visit the website inrelief.org which is a website designed to provide information in case of a natural disaster.  This relates to the article because the scalability, availability, and performance of the website.  The website did well and it received 10,000 users from 60 different countries.

What I liked about this article was that this exercise was a great way of getting ready for a natural disaster.  We saw what happened to Haiti and Chile and hopefully those scenes do not get repeated here.
