Chapter 4 Section 4.2 Information Security{0}

The chapter that was assigned to me was Chapter 4 Section 4.2 which involves the concept of “Information Security”. The article that I chose is called “Voice: The New Fingerprint?”, this article mainly talks about how identity theft has been rapidly increasing throughout the years. The government had to intervene in this problem and therefore created the “Bank Secrecy Act; which their main concern is to protect people from identity theft. According to the article by David Jastrow, user ID’s and passwords are ineffective and there has to be a new technology that can protect and individuals identity from hackers and everyone else trying to harm one’s identity. A company named “CellMax Systems” in Israel focuses on making this technology more approachable. By using voice recognition, the system is being able to recognize voice patterns, pitch and other patterns found in one’s voice. By using voice recognition it is easier to figure out who the individual accessing the information really is; cracking down all those hackers that are trying to steal information from companies or other individuals.

This article related to Chapter 4 Section 4.2 Information Security, because in the chapter it explains how companies struggle to maintain their information within their facilities. Insiders often times give out information to others, or hackers might invade their systems and steal important information of the company. In the chapter, it explains how there are several ways to keep information safe and one of those ways is the use of “biometrics”.

Biometrics is the identification of certain physical characteristics such as face, iris, handwriting, but also voice recognition. I really liked the idea of voice recognition because I believe that everyone has a different voice and a system that can identify an individual through voice recognition can minimize identity theft by implementing this system in every workplace. By having voice recognition it will disable hackers from obtaining information that can jeopardize the company’s well-being. Voice recognition is a great idea because it will not only lower identity theft, but it will also influence the idea that technology is moving forward as time passes by.
