An Integrated WebGIS Framework for Volunteered Geographic Information and Social Media in Soil and Water Conservation

by Quoc L
My article is about how social networking have the potential to increase public participation in soil and water conservation. Basic environmental awareness was for the past decade limited to radio broadcasts, books, publications, and some websites. The introduction of social media created a new level of interaction between the geographic information system(GIS) and its participants. Incorporating different technology in order to create an interactive website promoting  a healthier planet.

I found it interesting how environmental groups is using social media as mean to raises awareness about our planet. Using ASP.net as a foundation in forming WEBGIS; website enable GIS to farther reach the mass. They creating a website which enable user to upload images concertinaing   about it environment impact and how to prevent it. Build in mapping program to identify the location of each uploaded picture.

Learning about asp.net net will grant us the knowledge to program similar website to WEBGIS in the future. ASP.net is a powerful program that might be use to for life saving  project. I appreciated the fact that we are given the chance to learn about these amazing program/language. Who know if we might be using these skills to save life in our future.

The article was good and based on using technology and how everyhing is changing in the world we live in how we are broadcasting information out to people. It is interesting to see how they are doing that and are still using their old means as well . But the only thing is i dont know how you can relate the information to anything we did in class.

This is actually an interesting article because it shows that ASP.NET can be used for good. I’m glad there are websites that have the quality to create more awareness for our world.

Great article, generating awareness and getting the word out there is often the hardest things to do especially for grassroots campaigns. It’s neat that asp.net is used to help develop a more interactive geographic information system in social media. Thanks for sharing.
