Chapter 1 Information Systems in Business{0}

Is twittering a new marketing tool? In the business world new technologies are becoming more and more common. But what are the risks and what are the rewards for using these new markets. The article “Can the Twitterati help sell your soda pop?” posted on Cnet looks into that question. The article states that an event was recently held for the Mountain Dew soda brand and it was held with twitter as the main marketing method. Mountain Dew is just one company who is using a social networking site to advertise. Advertising through twitter is a way that companies can use real life testimonies to sell their products. The risk of marketing this way is that twitter allows any one to post, giving companies who use this method less control over negative publicity. Twitter also allows for offers to be made, and allows information to spread to masses quickly. Like most Information technology the tools to measure successful marketing from this sight can not be quantified in numbers. This lack of measurable success leaves marketers to question if twitter and other social networking sites are worth the effort. This relates to the chapter by showing how information technology is used in the Business world. This article is also relevant to me personally because I use sites such as Facebook and am exposed to these ads. It is common to go on sights such as facebook straight from your phone. If one person posts about Mountain Dew a whole conversation can start. Also a company adding a plug for their product through an event invitation or group support page can be started. One of these pages can be passed around by our friends and make you think an item has a social factor to a product, or negative. Any publicity can be good publicity.
