Chapter 11. Systems Development and Project Management{0}
NASA has offered 2 million dollars for a winner that could design a space elevator. Creating an elevator would make it more convenient and cheaper for NASA to get into space. Although the proposal is far fetched they are expecting at least one winner at some point this year. There currently have been no winners. They are proposing a cable from a satellite and the elevelator would have to run a kilometer long.
NASA is using the SDLC to implement their new idea. They are currently in the planning stage. They are offering money for someone else to plan it basically. Once they have chosen a winner and have figured out exactly how this will work they will analyze every aspect of what needs to be included for this crazy idea to work. Once the analysis has been done the design step will occur and virtual design will most likely be used. When that has been done the development stage will occur and the elevator will put into production. Once it has been developed the testing will occur. If all goes well with the testing implementation will occur and people will be able to utilize the elevator to space. And hopefully if it doesn’t tip over from outerspace just routine mainenance will be required and it will be a huge technological success!!!
