UI Design Ideas {1}

by Michael M
The idea of this article was to get a understanding of the UI Design Process. It gives an idea to 10 basic ideas that do seem crucial for Internet design especially becuase as I was reading you do not want to have a web page that is to busy that people would get distracted from the web page and not know what product you are really selling. You need to know who the users are and understand what they want becuase they are the client and are the ones that will end up using the system and not you. You also want to make sure to find something that is familiar with the user becuase if it is something that is normal the user would be able to use it easily and will not end up getting frusterated with your web design. Like all things everything needs to stay consistent users do not like to have to adapt the change constantly it gets hard for the user and as humans we are creatures of habit. Be able to focus on where things fit in the web page such as text images and things that relate to your web page. It is alwasy good to get feedback from your users they are the ones using it not you and they may want things changed so you should allow change for them. Dont hard code everything allow users to make changes because not everyone is perfect. Once a user uderstands everything allow shortcuts for the user so it become more freindly for them. Make sure everything is simple dont make things to complex a user would not like haveing to figure everthing out. Once you have all of that that you want to keep moving forward and helping your website. If you keep changing little things like pictures you will keep your followers coming to your page which will be good for your site. All of the little things need to be met and you will have a successful User Interface that will be appealing to many users. read more...

UI Testing With Real Users {2}

by Daniel S
One key aspect to user-interface design is how to run a user test. A user test is to show the developer how user friendly your design is. A user test should always involve users with no software skills whatsoever. This way the feedback that is given to the developer will be much more valuable, and also it will be unbiased. The test users that you’ve selected should also click around on various menus and the developer should log how the users use your system. As a developer, you have to be aware that since you’re using testers with no software skills, patience is the key. Some users might feel overwhelmed, stressed, and/or emotionally distressed. read more...

User Interface design will affect efficiency and experience {1}

by Boshi W
I read an article on Design Shack talking about the UI designs on of Apple’s products not very efficient and create problems for users. One design was the Ibooks User Interface being too spaced out and letters too cramped comparing to its competitors Amazon Kindle’s simple and intuitive design interface which gives much free space to breathe. The Authors calls this design the “uncanny valley”. Another UI design flaw was the Cockpit for Mac OSX also being too realistic but inefficient in user experience. The author argues that apps with simplicity in mind is more user friendly and adaptive then apps trying to make it too realistic. read more...

Aiding the Elderly {Comments Off on Aiding the Elderly}

by Luis F
The article was about a new user interface called ISISEMD (Intelligent System for Independent Living and Self-Care of Seniors with Cognitive Problems or Mild Dementia), and how it helps not only the elderly with dementia, but the care givers and family members as well.  The service in particular that focuses on user interface, is the GUI for the elderly patients and the layout that shows the agenda for the day, and photos for that particular patient to refresh their memory.   It also provides services in different bundle packages such as memory games, monitoring outside movement, recognizing daily patterns as well as many others.  After a trial effort they found that they need to make some changes to adapt to the wide array of different personalities such as those who fear technology and don’t trust it.  Some possible changes include making sensors less noticeable and to monitor the effects of using the service provided by ISISEMD. read more...
